Academy- and Oscar-winning Broadway Composer Alan Menken Shines at CLC's 5 th Annual Alphabet Ball

Stamford , CT —Guests at CLC's 5 th Annual Alphabet Ball who arrived expecting to have a good time didn't get exactly what they expected…they got much more! This year's event was made extra special celebration with entertainment by Academy- and Oscar Award-winning Broadway composer Alan Menken, who wrote the music for, “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “Little Shop of Horrors” and many more smash hits. Mr. Menken wow-ed attendees with world-class singing and piano playing as he gave a musical tour through his impressive portfolio of music. His performance was peppered with inside stories of the creation of many of the hits being played and included a sneak peek at a new song by Mr. Menken from the upcoming stage version of “Sister Act,” which is now in rehearsals in preparation for it's world debut in London.

The black tie evening with a gourmet dinner, dancing, and an exciting silent auction was co-chaired by Makeda Mays-Green and Kenneth Green, Mary and Howard Jennings, and Shirley and Bill Sklar.

CLC's Alphabet Ball was also an occasion to honor community leaders who have made a particular impact on early childhood education in Greater Stamford. This year's honorees included: June Rosenthal, President of Juner Properites; Marsha Shendell, Community Activist; Captain Charles Spaulding, Assistant Fire Marshall; and Richard Taber, First County Bank Chairman and CEO.

Money raised at the Alphabet Ball will help fund a wide variety of CLC's programs. Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening such a success!
