Hightlights
of 2008 - 2009
- In 2008-2009, CLC consolidated seven of its fourteen sites establishing a new state of the art facility called CLC ‘ Maple Avenue Child Development Center '.
- The Head Start Program received a review conducted by the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) and received an excellent rating. Classrooms at the following sites participated: Martin Luther King, Jean Hudgens, Quintard, Forest Street , Lathon Wider, and Rippowam, as well as our delegate in Greenwich .
- Our School Readiness classrooms at Stillmeadow received top NAEYC accreditation scores as did our Child Development classrooms at Westover, Rogers , Franklin Commons , and Yerwood.
- CLC has partnered with Yale University to create a Lab School at CLC Maple Avenue where the focus will be teacher training, curriculum innovation and research.
- Thirty-four percent (34%) of our Teachers and Head Teachers have a degree in Early Childhood. More than 50% of our Assistant Teachers and Teacher Aides have obtained a CDA or equivalent, exceeding the NAEYC requirement and 78% of all our teaching staff have acquired their credentials or degrees.
- The Breakthrough to Literacy program was expanded to all School Readiness classrooms at William Pitt, Stillmeadow, and Lathon Wider.
- Palmer's Hill playground received new surfaces; a canopy for shade was erected at Westover, and Yerwood received a brand new playground.
- The Legg mason Reading Program is now in full swing at Palmers' Hill and is a model for corporate reading programs across the agency.
