HIGHLIGHTS OF 2007-2008
- Our Child Development Program at the Roger's facility achieved accreditation in June, 2008, with scores at 100 and 100+ in all 10 Standards.
- Franklin Commons , Rippowam Park , Westover Family Resource Center , Yerwood Community Center , and Palmer's Hill Child Development programs participated in the Accreditation Project for the upcoming year
- The William Pitt Child Development Center achieved accreditation in January, 2008. This was the first program of its size to receive NAEYC accreditation under the new standards.
- The Breakthrough to Literacy Program expanded to our Westover facility and a proposal was submitted to expand the program to two more clusters at the William Pitt Center .
- A new School Readiness classroom opened in September, 2008, at our Lathon Wider site.
- More than 50% of Head Start and Early Head Start Assistant Teachers and Teacher Aides have obtained a CDA or equivalent, exceeding the NAEYC requirement.
- Sixteen teaching staff agency-wide earned their CDA, four staff members achieved their Certificate in Early Childhood Education, two staff members acquired their Associates degree, and three staff members earned their Bachelor's of Science degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Our Head Start family service workers and home visitors worked together as a team to provide emotional support to one another while dealing with numerous dramatic family crisis for our parents such as accidental death, domestic violence, and homelessness.
- New Playground equipment has been installed at Chester Addison through a collaboration with DOMUS and Kaboom.
- CLC was awarded a 2008-2009 Capital grant by the city of Stamford to assist the agency in replacing classroom furniture and playground equipment.
- Our Head Start management team presented workshops to all our School Readiness, Child Development, and Head Start staff on the “I AM Moving; I Am Learning (IMIL) approach to address childhood obesity.
- Our administrative team worked with our teachers and family service workers to implement our parent collections procedures, reduce the time teachers spend collecting fees, and significantly improved our agency-wide internal controls.
- Our Alphabet Ball raised $151,000 for the agency's operating fund.
- Our staff produced a proposal to outsource our food service program to reduce overall expense. Lindley Foods will be managing the food program at one of the agency's kitchens beginning in July, 2008.
- Outsourced our food service program and reduced overall expenses by $288,000.
